I am making a new PC and I want to use the mat because it is very expensive to make. I would like to know if there is an alternative or more suitable surface, such as tile, wood etc. I only use antistatic tape, but I don't want to take any chances with this component.

Wear an anti-static wrist strap or even a wire harness attached to the PC case you are working on. That's what crocodile tongs are for. This will eliminate the significant static charge.
