Definition of Categorical data:

1. Information organized into groups. For example, when a livestock business maintains categorical data about its animals, its information about groups of animals might be considered (1) qualitative data, such as a cow, (2) nominal data, such as Jersey cows, or (3) ordinal data, such as yearling cows.

Categorical Data

The data is presented in discrete categories, such as sex, eye color or animal species. For example, if ages were presented as age groups (e.g., 05, 618, 1960, 61+), the data would be categorical rather than numerical.
